Zamzam Water Miracle

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, "The best water on the face of the earth is Zamzam water."

When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) arrived at the barren desert of Makkah, there was no water, trees, or people. He left his wife, Hajar, and his son Isma'il (peace be upon them) there and continued on his journey. Hajar asked him, "O Ibrahim, where are you going, leaving us in this valley with nothing?" He did not respond. She repeated her question, but he did not look back. She asked again, "Has Allah commanded you to do this?" He replied, "Yes." She then said, "Then He will not abandon us." Ibrahim left to fulfill his divine mission, turning to Allah in supplication. Allah responded, ‘Our Lord! I have settled some of my offspring in a barren valley, near Your Sacred House, our Lord, so that they may establish prayer. So make the hearts of ˹believing˺ people incline towards them and provide them with fruits, so perhaps they will be thankful’. Shortly after, the water ran out, and Hajar and Isma'il began to suffer from hunger and thirst. Isma'il cried intensely from hunger and thirst, while Hajar climbed Mount Safa in search of help. She would return whenever she heard a noise. As they were in this state and Hajar was exhausted, she heard a sound, and relief came to them from Allah. Jibril (peace be upon him) was sent to them, striking the ground with his foot, causing a great spring of water to gush forth, which Hajar contained with her hands. She and Isma'il drank until they were satisfied. The Prophet Muhammad said, "May Allah have mercy on the mother of Isma'il. If she had left Zamzam (i.e., not taken water from it), it would have been a flowing spring." Zamzam water continued to flow from the same spot.

The Jurhum tribe sought permission from Hajar to settle near Zamzam water, and she granted it. Life flourished around the Sacred House. However, when the Jurhum tribe disrespected the sanctity of the Kaaba, Zamzam water dried up until it disappeared completely. Allah then guided Abdul-Muttalib, the grandfather of the Prophet Muhammad, to the location of the well. Allah bestowed this knowledge upon him, and he safeguarded it from the Quraysh. Zamzam water has been witness to numerous developments throughout the ages.

Zamzam water is known for its purity across generations and remains unaffected by impurities despite frequent use by visitors, pilgrims, and citizens throughout the Kingdom. It holds numerous benefits, as the Prophet Muhammad said, "The best water on the face of the earth is Zamzam water," and "Zamzam water is for whatever it is drunk for."
