During the Year of Sustainability, the UAE will host the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). Hosting this specialised global conference consolidates the leading position of the UAE in climate action aligning with the wise vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The UAE has been a leader in climate action for more than two decades. It acceded to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1995 and has since enacted a wide range of legislation and developed several sustainable development plans, including the expansion of renewable and clean energy projects to reach net-zero by 2050.
DEWA’s participation as a Principal Partner of COP28, which will be held from 30 November to 12 December 2023 in Expo City Dubai, is part of our endeavour to support the UAE’s efforts in the field of sustainability. During our participation, we will showcase our key initiatives and projects to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of Dubai’s total power production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
