The latest update features the newly issued ‘Zayed and Rashid’ commemorative coin, honoring the memory of the founding leaders, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, may their souls rest in peace. This special release embodies their pioneering role in the establishment of the Union and reflects their enduring legacy in strengthening national identity, loyalty, and belonging among the people of the United Arab Emirates.

  • Reverse (Back): National emblem surrounded by the name ‘Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates”’ in Arabic and English

Did You Know…

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates issues commemorative coins to honor significant events, occasions, and achievements in the nation’s history. These coins come in gold, silver, and one-dirham denominations. In 1992, the Central Bank issued two gold coins to commemorate the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, valued at 500 and 1000 dirhams. The Bank has also issued numerous coins featuring the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on various occasions, such as:

  • The 5th  National Day Anniversary
  • The 30th Anniversary of Sheikh Zayed’s Accession Day
  • The selection of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak as the Humanitarian Personality of 1998
  • And many other significant national milestones
