The story behind approving the shape and colours of the UAE flag dates back to when the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, received the members of the committee which was responsible for considering the designs for the UAE flag, national anthem, and official emblem.

The UAE flag was first raised on December 2, 1971, with the honour of being raised for the first time by our founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, at the "Dar Al Ittihad" in Dubai.
