Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has installed its Ultrafast EV Green Charger with a capacity of 150 kilowatts at the Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) station, located at Expo 2020 Dubai. This is part of its efforts to enrich its customers’ experience by reducing the time spent charging their vehicles.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted DEWA’s commitment to harnessing all experiences and the latest technologies to provide value-added services that promote its position in public facilities. It also supports the wise leadership’s efforts to host the world’s best edition of Expo in Dubai.
“DEWA is committed to encouraging society members to drive electric vehicles and increase the number of hybrids and electric vehicles in the Emirate. This is in accordance with the Smart Dubai initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world; and the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy. As the official sustainable energy partner at Expo 2020 Dubai, DEWA strives to provide sustainable energy to the facilities of this world-class event. This is according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, and efficiency. DEWA has allocated AED 4.26 billion to support electricity and water infrastructure projects at the Expo using the latest smart systems. It is also providing Expo 2020 Dubai with clean energy from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model,” said Al Tayer.
Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, said that DEWA plans to install more ultrafast charging stations at DEWA’s head office and other prominent sites across Dubai. DEWA has also installed two EV Green charger stations at the Expo 2020 Dubai office and is currently working on installing 15 more stations at the Opportunity, Sustainability and Mobility pavilions for electric vehicle owners visiting Expo Dubai. DEWA plans to provide five charging stations in each pavilion, able to cater for 30 electric vehicles charging simultaneously.
Currently, DEWA has installed around 300 charging stations across Dubai. It also provides free charging for non-commercial EV owners registered in the Green Charger initiative until 31 December 2021, exclusively at DEWA public charging stations.
