After reading HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s, tweet on Twitter in 2011 about the selection of Expo 2020 Ambassadors, I was inspired and motivated to be part of this event to promote Dubai’s eligibility to host the international event and to welcome the world to our beautiful city. I have a talent for writing and I had written and published some articles before, so I participated in the best article category, and wrote about Dubai’s capabilities to organise massive exhibitions from many aspects: economic, security and its important location. I also highlighted the cultural diversity in Dubai, which hosts more than 180 nationalities living in harmony and peace, which mark sit as a perfect place to organise this international event.
I felt so happy and proud, happy because I had the honour to be selected by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as an Expo 2020 ambassador, and proud to be part of this historical, important extravaganza. Moreover, for being able to represent and to show my love and pride of my country, while handing Dubai’s nomination file, which is such an honour.
The Expo 2020 team and I were so happy after we heard the news that Dubai had won the rights to host 2020. We really forgot all our tiredness and hardship that we had encountered during our journey, from the moment we became Expo 2020 ambassadors until the moment of the announcement. From my point of view, winning this event is an endorsement from the world about the ability of Dubai to organise such an amazing and huge exhibition.
My first mission as Expo 2020 ambassadors with the other ambassadors was to hand over Dubai’s nomination’s file to Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris and to prove the ability of Dubai to host Expo 2020 in the presence of 186 countries.
Before the announcement, Expo 2020 ambassadors were involved in the event-marketing plans, through regular visits to schools and universities, to explain the event, the themes and the subthemes to students, and we also used the power of social media to achieve our goal on proving Dubai’s eligibility to win the event. Later I achieved some personal tasks such as:
1- I have been honoured by naming the three Electricity substations that DEWA built for Expo 2020, in line with the theme of the exhibition (Mobility, Opportunity, Sustainability)
2- Visited Expo 2020 office along with a group of DEWA’s employees, to explain the event’s themes.
3- Participated in Expo 2020 Booth at the World Government Summit Exhibition.
4- Participated in Youth Connect workshops arranged by Expo 2020 office
5- Visited Expo Milan on 2015.
At the moment, there are no official tasks assigned to me as an ambassador, but there will be new tasks assigned before the exhibition.
DEWA represented by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and the higher management, gave me unlimited support to achieve my mission as an Expo 2020 ambassador. His Excellency gave me the opportunity to elevate my duty by inviting all Expo 2020 ambassadors, to attend the launching ceremony of some of DEWA’s great projects, especially the projects that relates to the principles of Expo 2020, such as launching the sustainable building in Al Quoz, and the launching of the first and the second phases of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. His Excellency also gave me his full support on implementing some of my ideas that related to the exhibition, such as hanging the Expo 2020 logos on DEWA’s buildings and naming DEWA’s 3 substations for Expo 2020, which is a great honour and I am so proud because of it.
